WHAT DREAMS MAY COME… (7-8 JUNE)

The National Drama School presents

WHAT DREAMS MAY COME…

Fantastical and Nightmarish Visions from Shakespeare’s Hamlet.

To die, to sleep;
To sleep, perchance to dream—ay, there’s the rub:
For in that sleep of death what dreams may come,
When we have shuffled off this mortal coil,
Must give us pause… Hamlet Act III Scene I

Set in a fantastical late 19th century world of illusions and nightmares, What Dreams May Come… is a pared back telling of Shakespeare’s tragic Prince of Denmark set in a gothic character study of tortured lives caught in a tragic, seemingly endless loop of regret and illusion.

Taking its title and dramatic inspiration from Hamlet’s most revered soliloquy, What Dreams May Come sees the central characters of Shakespeare’s play caught in a purgatory of their own making, as they replay memories from their life. Sometimes the memories become nightmares, sometimes they become idyllic fantasies. Moments in time emerge from and return to a dark underworld.

Directed by Dr Jo Loth and performed by graduating students of the Advanced Diploma of Acting.
