My Recollections of harry mckenna
My grandfather Harry McKenna was born in Malmsbury, Victoria in 1888 and died in 1958 when I was 8 years old. You will read in the Women’s Weekly page dated 1949 that Harry was property man with the National Theatre for many years. The great part of this story is that the cooking of the family meal was prevented from happening because, although my grandparents had both a gas and wood stove they were often being used to bake his papier-mâché props. My mother had a coronation crown that my grandfather made for one of the productions, but I am unsure of which one. I have donated the crown to the Melbourne Arts centre.
