As the year draws to a close, the students of The National Ballet and Drama Schools invite you into Realms, an evening of fairytale, folklore and fouettés. Each piece opens the door to a world of its own.
First, the gilded realm of classical ballet. The National Ballet School opens with Paquita, a celebration of elegance, musicality and precision. Then the order begins to unravel, and Carnival of the Animals sets loose a menagerie of spiders, flamingos, elephants, swans and more. Dancers, from our youngest students to our emerging professionals, bring these creatures to life.
Next, a realm of shadow and folklore. In Dead of Winter, our Young Actors Program conjures the stranger things that stir when the nights grow longest. These original devised pieces are playful, eerie, and entirely their own.
Finally, a realm beneath the waves. Our Musical Theatre performers leave the shores of St Kilda for an underwater kingdom in The Little Mermaid, full of singing, jazz, tap, toe-tapping hits and larger-than-life characters.
From poise to playfulness, from midwinter mischief to the ocean floor, Realms celebrates a year of extraordinary young artists and the worlds they create.
