Stephen is a Melbourne based actor, voice artist, performance-maker, director and teacher and is a 2002 graduate of the Victorian College of the Arts, School of Drama. He has appeared with several Australian main- stage theatre companies including Melbourne Theatre Company, Bell Shakespeare, Malthouse Theatre, Black Swan, Belvoir and has toured internationally with Complexity of Belonging and Lucid for Chunky Move.
His television and film credits range from network television series – including Apple Cider Vinegar, Thai Cave Rescue, Jack Irish, Winners and Losers, The Leftovers, House Husbands, Childhood’s End, Last Man Standing, Barracuda, Offspring, City Homicide, Australia On Trial, Neighbours, Love Letters, Blue Heelers; through to avant-guard short film, The Catalyst, Mary’s Room, Jason is My Dad; as well as feature film releases: Bring Her Back, The Returned, Subject, X, Turkey Shoot, Disclosure, The Killer Elite.
Stephen also works extensively as a national and international voiceover artist and audio-book narrator. As a teacher Stephen has taught sessionally for University of Melbourne, Victorian College of the Arts School of Drama from 2010-2016, and is a mentor for the Ulumbarra Foundation’s Mentoring Programme supporting young artists in regional Victoria. Stephen is the co-artistic director for the globally renowned 5AngryMen Physical Theatre Ensemble and has toured the company’s flagship show The Bells to various national and international arts and music festivals including: Serendipity Arts Festival, India; Festival of Crossing Borders, El Salvador; White Night – Melbourne; WomAdelaide; Splendour in the Grass, Inland Sea of Sound and Upstream. In addition, he continues to teach the 5AngryMen company’s physical theatre training workshop series ‘The Actors Ensemble Practise’ to various training institutions in Australia and overseas.
