The National Theatre Drama School presents

Uncle Vanya by Anton Chekhov

Wednesday 23 - Saturday 26 June

A New Version by Anya Reiss

During an unseasonably hot autumn, Vanya and his niece Sonya work the family farm to provide money for her father, Professor Serebryakov. The only occasional visitor is the local doctor, Astrov.

But when Sonya’s aging father returns to the estate with his beautiful young wife and suggests selling the property, repressed feelings are called to the surface and years of resentment and unrequited love threaten to tear the family apart.

Chekhov’s classic story of lives thrown away and dreams discarded, is catapulted into the 21st century in this vibrant, funny and energetic new take on Chekhov’s masterpiece by British wunderkind Anya Reiss.

“This Uncle Vanya has a breezy charm that makes it the perfect primer for those wary of Russian angst… Reiss’s adaptation is fresh and punchy”
