2022 Drama Summer School

10-14 January 2022

During this 5 day experience, young artists will spend a week working as a mini theatre company.

Under the facilitation of their tutor, participants will learn skills in performance, furthering their understanding of voice, physicality and focus to convey ideas. They will work as a team to devise a piece of contemporary theatre, learning to respond to stimulus, create scripts, edit and collate, follow threads, distil concepts and extend ideas further.

Students will be responsible for choices around costume, design, lighting and sound and will share the sourcing and production of these elements. Students will work with our theatre Technicians to see their designs come to life on stage.

The week will culminate in a performance of their ensemble piece to be performed in The National Theatre’s own 50 seat Black Box Theatre.  Restrictions allowing, parents and friends will be invited to watch the performances on Friday 14 January.

Spend 5 days as a member of a theatre company and stage a show for friends & family!

During this 5-day drama camp, aspiring actors will work together as a theatre company, learning all the aspects of what it takes to put on a show.

Students will work with professional actor/teachers to develop skills in performance, enhancing their understanding of voice, movement, and interaction – and how to successfully convey their ideas for a story.

Working as a team, the students will devise a piece of contemporary theatre; this will include creating scripts by exploring concepts, extending ideas, and finally collating and editing to create a script for stage.

They will also be involved in choosing the costumes, as well as designs for the set, lighting and sound, and they will be jointly responsible for the sourcing and production of all these ‘production’ elements.

The result will be the creation of a strong, current piece of ensemble theatre, that will be performed for friends and family on the final day – to a standing ovation!
