If you’ve always wanted to enter the world of stage and screen acting, The National Theatre Drama School short courses offer the perfect opportunity for you to tap into your creative talents!  Our teaching faculty of industry experts will support your foray into the craft of acting in an inclusive and respectful manner. 

The first two stages of Acting Technique classes will develop your confidence and storytelling skills building to more challenging script work. In Performance Making – The Creative Stage you will experience the excitement of working with an ensemble and professional Director to develop an entirely new piece of theatre that you will share with family and friends.

Screen Shots moves from the stage to the screen, with  multi-talented actor Cazz Bainbridge guiding you through breaking down a script, mastering technical requirements and bringing authenticity to your performance. Cazz will also introduce you to the ‘self tape’ process that is the basis for casting in the screen industry.

ACTING TECHNIQUE – The First Stage (prev Intro to Acting)

Take your first steps towards becoming an actor in a supportive, inspiring and creative environment.
The First Stage is your introduction to the craft, whether you’ve always wanted to try acting or just been out of the game for a while.
This course provides an excellent 8-week experience to take the leap and just do it! You will be working in a supportive, inspiring and creative environment.
At this stage we are all about engaging and unleashing your imagination.
By exploring the foundation of acting you will develop your confidence, while expanding your storytelling skills.

Our industry professionals will prepare you to take to the stage with confidence and skills necessary to successfully perform and connect with your fellow actors.
Acting Technique – The Next Stage takes your acting to a new level. Working with industry professionals, you will begin to hone your craft with exciting and challenging scripts. Our teachers will take you through the fundamentals of text analysis, character creation and building a rapport with your scene partner.
At the completion of this course you will have gained the skills to successfully perform and truly connect with your fellow performers. The course will also include an informal presentation in the last week of your course.

Work with expert teachers to further develop your acting skills and create a self-devised work that you will perform for family and friends at the end of the course.

Performance Making – The Creative Stage follows on from The Next Stage. Participants will work with an expert teacher on further development of their skills in scene work and the creative of a self devised piece to perform at the end of the course for family and friends.

Take your acting skills from the stage to the screen in this dynamic course with screen actor Cazz Bainbridge.
Screenshots is a class for aspiring actors looking for an introduction to screen acting techniques.
During this 8-week course students will develop their screen acting skills and record two self-tapes which have become the industry norm for initial auditions.
With the guidance of Cazz Bainbridge, students will learn how to break down texts and discuss tone, while using techniques from Susan Batson to understand and empathise with their chosen character.
Students will increase their comfort in front of the camera finding freedom within the technical restrictions of a shot. 

While no pre-requisites are required, this class is perfect for students who have completed The First Stage or The Next Stage courses.

Please note: All classes are intended for in studio delivery. In the event of a snap lockdown classes may have to move online and our teachers will adapt lessons to suit this mode of delivery.
