Bringing Shakespeare’s Text to Life

Available in January and July

Fall in love with Shakespeare through physical and vocal exploration, ensemble work and textual analysis.

This course is a practical and dynamic introduction to performing Shakespeare’s work.

Inspired by Shakespeare’s deep exploration of the human experience, Shaun teaches students to find creative liberation through timeless narrative, moment-to-moment play, and a thorough exploration of vocal and physical technique. Fusing both the classical and the contemporary, his work is grounded in the belief that exploring the stories of our past contextualises our present and helps us better shape our future.

Shakespeare with a Spin

Available in April and October

Contextualise, rehearse and perform excerpts of Shakespeare.

Bring Shakespeare into the modern world  and put your individual spin on the world’s most performed playwright. Shakespeare with a Spin gives you a toolkit to unlock their technical craft while inspiring their creativity and artistic voice. In 2024 you will use Shakespeare’s Macbeth as a core text to illuminate the great truths of life across time, space and gender. Under the guidance of Shaun Goss, your ensemble will create physical and vocal explorations that respond to our contemporary world while developing an actor’s toolkit through research, observation and textual analysis, along with imagination and play.

Shakespeare with a Spin culminates in a public performance in our Black Box Theatre.

Testimonials
“Working with Darcy Kent has been the most challenging and valuable time I have spent in the rehearsal room ever. Not only have these classes been so rewarding, but I’ve felt so safe and free to begin exploring all those parts of myself I’ve shoved to the depths. Not only as an actor, but as a part of the machine of the world finding truth and honesty in my heart and my connections with others.  The specificity of feedback and the challenges in truth have been so practical and rewarding. I’ve never felt so inspired by the challenge of the craft. I’ve been inhaling books and performances like there’s no tomorrow.” – Molly England
