Foundation In Acting
A new part-time (non-accredited) short-course provides opportunities to experience the range of disciplines and skills needed for a professional career on stage or screen, before committing to higher-level study.
Working with respected Industry professionals, students undertake classes in Movement, Voice, Improvisation, Text Study, and Stage and Screen Acting. Class sizes are capped so that students receive the maximum attention and encouragement and are given the best chance to fully explore their training potential.
The studios are based in its own area within the National Theatre building at the corner of Carlisle and Barkly Street, St Kilda a short distance away from Luna Park and the beach.
Course hours7.00–10.00 pm three nights a week, Monday, Tuesday and Thursday.
Each course runs for two terms (Total Course - 16 weeks).
There are two annual intakes (February and July) and places are allocated by audition in December and June each year.
Course Content Subject areas include:
- Stage acting
- Text analysis
- Movement for actors
- Voice and singing
- Industry knowledge
- Screen acting basics
During the audition itself, you will perform a monologue from the attached book before a panel of two of our tutors. From here, you may get some direction and an opportunity to re-do it.
Please note: This is a Foundation course and you are not expected to be an expert, but we are looking for evidence of potential and commitment to preparation in order to ensure you can gain the most from the course.
