Scholarships

The Ballet school awards three to four scholarships each year, selected by the Director of Ballet, for students that show great promise or outstanding achievement. Students can request an application form in order to formally apply for a scholarship.

The Gertrude Johnson Scholarship

This Scholarship, named in honour of the National Theatre’s creator is valued at $1000. It is awarded to a student who, in the opinion of the Director and Staff, has demonstrated their professional potential and can show that financial assistance would significantly benefit them. The funds are to be used primarily for the payment of tuition fees.

The Miss Eileen Tasker  Scholarship

This Scholarship, named in honour of the Eileen Tasker OAM, the National Theatre Ballet School’s longest serving teacher. She has taught thousands of students since 1975 and is till imparting her knowledge, expertise and love of ballet to many more young dancers. The scholarship is awarded to a student who, in the opinion of the Director and Staff, has demonstrated their professional potential and can show that financial assistance would significantly benefit them. The funds are to be used primarily for the payment of tuition fees. This scholarship can be divided amongst a number of students.

The Jean Stewart Scholarship

This Scholarships are named in honour of Jean Stewart (1921-2017) who was an esteemed dance photographer and a regular patron of the National Theatre Ballet School for many years. She was trained as a radiographer, but ballet was her passion and she created an amazing archive of photographs of Australian companies in the 1940s and 1950s. Her work is currently represented in various libraries and performing arts collections around Australia. Scholarships are awarded to students who, in the opinion of the Director and Staff, have demonstrated their professional potential and can show that financial assistance would significantly benefit them. The funds are to be used primarily for the payment of tuition fees. This scholarship can be divided amongst a number of students.
