How to Audition For the Full Time Dance Courses in 2022

Students wishing to apply for a place on any of the National Theatre Ballet School’s Full Time courses must complete an audition.

Digital video submission – AUS/NZ and International
Private audition with the Artistic Director – by arrangement

To Apply
AUSTRALIAN AND NZ APPLICANTS:

Step 1 – Complete the Audition Application Form and pay the application fee.

To complete the Application Form please provide:

  • Your personal details
  • Guardian Details (if under 18 years of age)
  • Current School
  • The Ballet Syllabus you have trained in
  • Your current training level
  • List any injuries
  • Submit 3 Photos (These do not need to be professionally taken)
  • Photo 1. In parallel (6th position) arms by side.
  • Photo 2. Standing in dégagé decoté (seconde) with arms in seconde position.
  • Photo 3. In first arabesque (any side)
  • Pay the fee of $75.00

Step 2 – Your application will allow you to book into your chosen audition venue. An email will be sent confirming your booking.

DIGITAL AND INTERNATIONAL SUBMISSION

Step 1 – Complete the Audition Registration Form and pay the application fee.

To complete the Application Form please provide:

  • Your personal details
  • Guardian Details (if under 18 years of age)
  • Current School
  • The Ballet Syllabus you have trained in
  • Your current training level
  • List any injuries
  • Submit 3 Photos (These do not need to be professionally taken)
  • Photo 1. In parallel (6th position) arms by side.
  • Photo 2. Standing in dégagé decoté (seconde) with arms in seconde position.
  • Photo 3. In first arabesque (any side)
  • Provide a video link 5 min (maximum) Barre work consisting of: plie (demi and grande in 1st, 2nd and 5th), tendus and jetes, adage, grand battement.

  • 10 min (maximum) Centre work consisting of: Adage, Pirouette enchainment (pirouettes endehors and endedan), Petit Allegro, Medium Allegro and Grande Allegro.

  • Pointe work: Females only – 5 min (maximum) centre work including pirouettes only and/or a traditional Variation

For Digital applications when no studio space is available due to covid-19 lockdown and restrictions 

  • Provide a video link 5 min (maximum) Barre work consisting of plie (demi and grande in 1st, 2nd, and 5th), tendus and jetes, adage, grand battement.

  • 10 min (maximum) Centre work consisting of: Adage, Pirouette enchainment (pirouettes endehors and endedan), Petit Allegro, Medium Allegro

  • Pointe work: Females only – 5 min (maximum) centre work including pirouettes only if space allows, please modify according to safety and space or submit any film from previous variations that you have performed.

  • Pay the fee of $75.00

 

Step 2 – Your application will be reviewed by our Artistic Director and you will be informed of the outcome via email.

What happens after I have completed my Audition

 

Step 1  On successful audition or submitted video audition, you will be contacted to submit your last academic record via email and invited to a zoom interview with the Artistic Director, Damian Smith.

Step 2  If your audition and interview are successful, you are required to pay the enrolment fee within 2 weeks of accepting your offer. This will guarantee your position in the course.

Step 3 Health Assessment documents will be sent to you to be filled in by your doctor and physiotherapist. These must be returned back to the Head of Schools Administrator in a timely manner. All personal information is covered by our privacy policy.

Step 4  Enrolment documents and fees must be submitted prior to the course start date. The Head of Schools Administrator will organise an invoice and advise you on the payment methods.

Step 5  You will receive information on your course term dates, uniform, student handbook, orientation and commencement day dates. 

Entry Requirements

Acceptance is by audition and interview only for each year of the courses on offer. Students must meet all requirements and pass all units of competency in each subsequent year to obtain a qualification. Students applying for Diploma and above will need to provide evidence of completion of Year 10 or equivalent (language, literacy and numeracy level 4).
