How to Audition For the Full Time Dance  Programs in 2022

Students who want to apply for a place on any of the National Theatre Ballet School’s Full Time courses must complete an audition for a place.

To Apply

MELBOURNE APPLICANTS:

Step 1 – Complete the Audition Application Form with all relevant information that has to be provided for your course and pay the application fee. To complete the Application Form you will need:

  • Fill in your personal details
  • Guardian Details (if under 18 years of age)
  • Current School
  • The Ballet Syllabus you have trained in
  • Your current training level
  • List any injuries
  • Submit 3 Photos (These do not need to be professionally taken)
    Photo 1. In parallel (6th position) arms by side. Photo 2. Standing in degage decote (seconde) with arms in seconde position. Photo 3. In first arabesque (any side)
  • Pay the fee of $75.00

If your application meets the criteria: You will be invited to attend an audition at our St Kilda studios in August.

INTERSTATE APPLICANTS ONLY:

Step 1 – Complete the Audition Application Form with all relevant information that has to be provided for your course and pay the application fee. To complete the Application Form you will need:

  • Fill in your personal details
  • Guardian Details (if under 18 years of age)
  • Current School
  • The Ballet Syllabus you have trained in
  • Your current training level
  • List any injuries
  • Submit 3 Photos (These do not need to be professionally taken)
    Photo 1. In parallel (6th position) arms by side. Photo 2. Standing in degage decote (seconde) with arms in seconde position. Photo 3. In first arabesque (any side)
  • Provide a video link 5 min (maximum) Barre work consisting of: plie (demi and grande in 1st, 2nd and 5th), tendus and jetes, adage, grand battement. 10 min (maximum) Centre work consisting of: Adage, Pirouette enchainment (pirouettes endehors and endedan), Petit Allegro, Medium Allegro and Grande Allegro.  Pointe work: Females only – 5 min (maximum) centre work including pirouettes
  • Pay the fee of $75.00

Step 2 – On successful video audition, you will be contacted to submit your last academic record via email and invited to a zoom interview.

Step 3 – If your audition and interview are successful, you are required to pay the deposit invoice within 2 weeks of accepting your offer. This will guarantee your position in the course.

Step 4 – Pay your fees prior to the course start date. The School Administrator will organise an invoice and advise you on the payment methods.

Step 5 – You will receive information on your course term dates and orientation. The enrollment paperwork will then be provided by the School Administrator.

International Students

International Students are encouraged to apply. You will need to submit the following via Video Link if you are unable to attend an audition. to complete the Application Form you will need:

  • Fill in your personal details
  • Guardian Details
  • If under 18 years of age you will need to organise a designated guardian in Melbourne
  • Current School
  • The Ballet Syllabus you have trained in
  • Your current training level
  • List any injuries
  • Submit 3 Photos (These do not need to be professionally taken)

Entry Requirements

Acceptance is by audition and interview only for each year of the courses on offer. Students must meet all requirements and pass all units of competency in each subsequent year to obtain a qualification. Students will need to provide evidence of completion of Year 10 or equivalent (language, literacy and numeracy level 4).

Fees are payable by the census date of each unit in advance. Students who are eligible for VET Student Loans may be able to obtain an Australian Government student loan for their tuition fees in this course. (see VET student Loans)
