Full-Time Ballet Programs
The National Theatre is a registered training organisation providing a number of full time accredited qualifications, as well as a full-time non, accredited training program through our Ballet School.
The National Theatre Ballet School professional accredited training courses are continually evaluated to meet the ever-evolving dance industry, maximising our students’ opportunities to achieve a career in the dance industry.
All our Full-Time programs provide students with professional industry relevant dance training and skills that prepare and support the student beyond the studio.
We offer accredited and non-accredited pathways for Australian and International students to attain qualifications in Certificate IV in Dance, Diploma of Dance Elite Performance, and Advanced Diploma of Dance Elite Performance.
On offer is a specialist Emerging Artist Finishing Year program. This course is a personal bridging program to assist post-tertiary and advanced level trained graduates, who require a little more time and support in order to launch beyond everyday training.
All Accredited and Non-Accredited course entries are by audition and interview.
Certificate IV in Dance

This nationally recognised qualification is the first year of the vocational dance programs and is ballet training focused. Each year entry is by audition.
The journey with the National Theatre Ballet School Full-Time training programs begins at the Cert IV level which enables a tranistion from regular Part-Time school training while having the option of still obtaining a VCE Atar score with Virtual School Victoria http://vsv.vic.edu.au/students/senior-school/ This an option for students that are accepted into the Cert IV program and living in Victoria.
Students who successfully audition and enter the Certificate IV course will either be completing their final years of schooling or wish to fast-track their training towards gaining entry into the Diploma of Dance Elite Performance course. Students develop technical and creative skills in discipline areas of Ballet, Pointe, Character, Contemporary techniques, Choreography, Jazz, Performance skills and Fitness.
DIPLOMA OF DANCE (ELITE PERFORMANCE)

The course provides intense technical training and develops stylistic/artistic expression through practical experience, classes and performance opportunities. Students develop technical and creative skills in discipline areas of Ballet, Pointe, Pas-de-deux and Solos, Contemporary techniques, Choreography, Dance history, Anatomy, Nutrition and Fitness.
The course provides participants with the skills and understanding of the requirements dancers working or aspiring to work in professional dance companies and other areas of dance

This nationally-recognised qualification is the final year of the vocational dance programs that are on offer at the National Theatre Ballet School and is ballet focused. Each year entry is by audition.
It takes a holistic approach to the needs of the dancer of the future, building the skills required for lifelong sustainability in the dance profession. The course encourages dancers’ individuality, confidence, flair and creativity.
Students take classes in Ballet, Pointe, Classical Repertoire, Contemporary techniques, Choreography, Character, Performance, Dance History, and Fitness.
The Advanced Diploma Course is intended for dancers who possess the necessary technique, aptitude and talent to work in professional dance companies and or in the dance industry. It is designed to provide participants with the technique, artistic skills, aptitude and knowledge that will assist them towards their endeavours to dance professionally.

EMERGING ARTISTS PROGRAM
This is a personal bridging program to assist post-tertiary and advanced level trained graduates, who require a little more time and support in order to launch beyond everyday training. Emerging Artists will be allowed opportunities to represent the National Theatre Ballet School in competitions, productions, events and forums gaining experience on stage and creating opportunities, all while continuing training in Ballet Technique, Repertoire, Variations, Contemporary, Character, Body Conditioning, and rehearsals as needed in performance.
|Auditions take place in August and October at the National Theatre Ballet School studios, in St Kilda. Requests can be made for private auditions by contacting the Ballet office directly|
During Covid-19 restrictions all auditions can be submitted by video along with your audition application.

Pre-requisites & Entry Requirements
- Entry is by audition only
- Completion of Academic Year 10 studies.
- Open Auditions held August/October each year
- Private auditions can be arranged throughout the year by request.
- CRICOS registered to accept international students
- Annual intake up to 25 students ( includes both female and male students)
- Scholarships are available
