The National Theatre is a registered training organisation providing a number of full time accredited qualifications, as well as a full-time non, accredited training program through our Ballet School.
Our professional accredited training courses are continually evaluated to meet the ever-evolving dance industry, maximising our students’ opportunities to achieve a career in dance.
All our Full-time programs provide students with professional industry relevant dance training and skills that prepare and supports the student beyond the studio.

The course provides participants with the skills and understanding of the requirements for dancers, aspiring to work in professional dance companies and other areas of dance.

The Advanced Diploma Course is intended for dancers who possess the necessary technique, aptitude and talent to work in professional dance companies and or in the dance industry. It is designed to provide participants with the technique, artistic skills, aptitude and knowledge that will assist them towards their endeavours to dance professionally.
This is a personal bridging program to assist post-tertiary and advanced level trained students, who require a little more time and support in order to launch beyond everyday training.
Students will be allowed opportunities to represent the school in competitions, events and forums gaining experience on stage and creating opportunities, all while continuing training in ballet technique, repertoire, variations, contemporary, character, body conditioning, and rehearsal as need in performance.
Students will also have the opportunity to create video auditions, be involved in photo shoots (videos and photos must be purchased by the emerging artist) and be considered for a letter of introduction to companies in Australia and/or Internationally including company secondment opportunities where possible, directed by Artistic Director and Associate Director.
Emerging artists are encouraged to create a professional relationship which nurtures communication and enable professional goals to be fulfilled.
Each program builds on the skills and knowledge gained in the previous year. With the main subject areas (listed below) being built on each year to improve your skills and knowledge in performance and theory.

Full-time programs – practical lessons per week – approximately 35 hours over a 6 day week plus rehearsals and performances.
Pre-requisites & Entry Requirements
- Entry is by audition only
- Completion of Academic Year 10 studies.
- Open Auditions held September/October each year
- Private auditions can be arranged throughout the year
- CRICOS registered to accept international students
- Annual intake up to 25 students – this includes both female and male students
- Scholarships are available

Fees are payable by the census date of each unit in advance. Students who are eligible for VET Student Loans may be able to obtain an Australian Government student loan to a maximum of $10,000 of their tuition fees in this course. (see VET student Loans)
